This site is a static website run by me, Johannes Filter, as a private person. It sets no cookies of its own, embeds nothing from third parties, and has no user accounts. The three things that do process data are described below: the web server, the analytics, and the newsletter form.

Newsletter
The signup forms on this site post to my own listmonk installation at daten.cool. Your address is stored there only after you confirm it via the link in the first email (double opt-in). I use it for nothing but the newsletter, and every email carries an unsubscribe link that deletes the address. Legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Server logs and security
For security and stability purposes, my hosting infrastructure automatically records basic information about each visit to this site. This includes:
- Which pages were accessed and when
- Technical details like browser version and operating system
- Data transfer volumes and success status
- Referring websites
- Anonymized network information
These logs help me detect and prevent security threats. I keep them for up to 7 days, except when needed for investigating security incidents. This processing is based on my legitimate interest in maintaining a secure and stable website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Analytics with Matomo
I use Matomo, hosted on my own server, so nothing is sent to a third party. It records:
- Browser types and operating systems visitors use
- Geographic regions (country-level only)
- Visit patterns and duration
- Which external links are clicked
IP addresses are anonymised before they are stored. Legal basis is my legitimate interest in knowing which pages get read (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Matomo places small text files (cookies) on your device to recognize return visits. These cookies:
- Expire after one week
- Create only pseudonymous usage patterns
- Are stored only on my server
- Are never shared with or sold to third parties
You can disable these cookies in your browser settings without affecting your ability to use this site.
To opt out, use the link below. This sets an opt-out cookie that tells Matomo to ignore your visits. Note that if you clear your browser cookies, you’ll need to opt out again.
Analytics data is deleted after 6 months.
